Clinical Risk Factors Associated With Tardive Dyskinesia Development

Authors provide an overview of the clinical risk factors for tardive dyskinesia (TD), divided into three categories: patient-, illness-, and treatment-related variables. Both modifiable and nonmodifiable factors are discussed. The purpose of this article is to make clinicians who are prescribing dopamine antagonists aware of the clinical risk factors associated with TD in order to minimize TD and the consequences of it.
